At the Linden Centre, Music is taught across Key stages 1 to 3. Pupils have opportunities to develop musicianship, to build confidence in performance, compositive and to inspire a love of music by exposing them to a wide variety of musical genres from different periods. The music department has a wealth of musical instruments for pupils to learn, practice and explore. The music department also gives opportunities to learn and to master a specific instrument outside of school if they wish to. We aim to help all pupils to make practical progress in a way which makes them feel that they have achieved something.

Our vision for this subject it is to build confidence in young people and inspire a love of listening, performance, and composition. We aim to expose pupils to a broad, diverse and representative selection of music in order to build knowledge of both traditional and modern music. We are passionate about exploring the works of various musicians and sharing successes amongst young people. Above all we want students to feel safe and confident when exploring the subject and develop resilience through the rehearsal and performance process.
The Music department aims to ensure that all students are given an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the eclectic musical world and to engage in a practical and theoretical study of the subject. In KS3, our focus is on performance, composition, and appraising. Students have one lesson a week in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.
During the academic year 2022 to 2023 Music will focus on:
Priority Objective To build confidence in pupils to enable them to use their voices and play musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control, and expression. |
Priority Objective To equip pupils with skills to improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the inter-related dimensions of music. |
Priority Objective To teach pupils to listen with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory. |
Priority Objective Pupils should be taught to develop an understanding of the history of music.
