Useful information

There are various resources, websites and information out there, which can support parents and carers in keeping their child safe.

Child Exploitation	There are various websites which offer a range of advice and support for the various streams of exploitation. All of this information has been collated into one page on the 'Useful information for professionals regarding Child Exploitation' page on the partnership website.
Children who view sexually explicit images online	The Lucy Faithfull Foundation launched a guide to support parents of children - 'What's the problem? - A guide for parents of children and young people who have got in trouble' for viewing or sharing sexually explicit images online.
Coping with Self-Harm	The Psychiatry department at the University of Oxford has published a guide for parents on how to cope with their child's self-harm, which is based on their in-depth research with parents.
Domestic Abuse	The Family Connect website brings together the range of support for individuals affected by Domestic Abuse.
Educate Against Hate	Practical advice and information is available for teachers, parents and school leaders, in order to protect children from extremism and radicalisation.
Female Genital Mutilation	Further information on the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is available on the NSPCC website. Further information locally can be found on the West Mercia Police website.
Gangs	If you are worried about gangs, it can be difficult to know what to do to help protect young people. Whether they are thinking about joining a gang, are already involved or want to leave, they need help and support. The NSPCC supports those who are worried about young people either involved in or at risk of being involved in a gang.
Is a child ready to be left alone?	As a child gets older, they will often want to have a little more independence... but how can you make sure they are safe when they are not with you? The NSPCC have developed a guide can help to decide what is best for that child, prepare them for being alone and make sure they are safe. You can make notes on it, customise it, and even tear out the section on the back to stick on the fridge.
MindEd for Families	A free learning resource about the mental health of children, young people and older adults.
Sexting	Team Safeguarding Voice© developed a 'Dangers of Sexting' short guide for parents/carers and professionals.
Sexual Assault	The Glade Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is a specialist centre which provides a service to those who have been sexually assaulted within West Mercia.
The Hidden Sentence - children of offenders	i-HOP provides professionals who work with the children of offenders (whether they are teachers, social workers, commissioners, health care workers, prison officers etc) with a free online information hub, which lists all of the up-to-date resources, strategies, policies and research to support work with these families. There is also a free helpline that professionals can access for support.
The Underwear Rule - Talk PANTS	The Underwear Rule - commonly known as Talking PANTS - is a simple way for parents to explain to their children how to keep children safe from abuse. An easy read guide has been created, in order to talk PANTS with a child, without using scary words or mentioning sex.
